Here’s why we developed Premergency as a cloud-based app

Throughout the last years our lives have changed in many ways. Everything changes. The way we communicate and the way we live. The way how companies work and do business. Everything is connected and becomes more and more digital.

At the same time the world of digital products is also changing, where Software marks one of many examples. You probably remember, how software was sold only a few years back. You went into a shop and bought a program on CD. Alternatively you may have ordered the software online. Nonetheless, you received a physical copy. After that, you inserted the CD into your computer and installed the program. Unless the software company had limited the program’s license (which is common for anti-virus apps, etc.), you, the customer, were able to use the app for as long as you wanted to. Later on you had the opportunity to purchase a  newer version upon release.

This distribution process has now become either fully digital or at least semi-digital.

Let’s think back a little. When was the last time you went into a shop to buy software? And how long has it been since the product you purchased was a CD that you later inserted into your computer?

That’s right; nowadays, when buying software you usually receive a card containing a download link and a product key. The rest doesn’t differ much from the “classical” approach: you go home, download the app, enter the product key and, if necessary, buy a later version in the future.

Next to the previous step, you usually have the opportunity to directly purchase software and the corresponding license from its manufacturer. You go to the a website and simply download the app. After that you use the program and download updates if necessary and upgrade to a later version if desired.

Web-based software/cloud-based software

Within the last paragraphs we have shown you, how the market for digital products has changed. However, there is one thing digital software and semi-digital software have in common. The product is finally installed located on your computer.

As an answer to this, a new trend has been emerging throughout the last years; web-based software. For you, the customer, this doesn’t change much. You visit the manufacturer’s website and purchase the software. The big difference is, that you no longer have to install the program on your computer. You go to a website, log yourself in and use the app.

You as a user gain several benefits. First, many apps take up huge amounts of disk space. Using a web-based app, a local installation is no longer required, ergo, you save disk space. Moreover, cloud-based software makes more flexible pricing possible for manufacturers. Thus, several manufacturers offer various subscriptions, leaving it to you to choose the option, which best fits your requirements. Usually subscriptions can be cancelled easily, so that you can cancel, whenever you no longer have a use for the app. This saves money, disk space or maybe even shelf space, as you no longer have to store numerous, dusty CD cases. Additionally, cloud-based software can be used flexibly from anywhere.
